computer lab for convent
escazú, 2001
Located inside a convent in Escazú, the Computer Laboratory was designed for the 45 resident girls to use. The classroom was projected for a quite simple functional program: a space for nine computers and a blackboard. This designed turned to be an expressive volume, light and transparent, that adds to the search of an architecture adapted to context with a contemporary language. Structurally the metallic elements stand out from the north and south facades, which, along with the windows, allow the relation between the classroom and the immediate gardens. with an area of 28 m2 and a limited budget equivalent to $10000, the classroom ennunciates an honest gesture and supports the Latin American vanguard architecture, where the seductive image precedes the rationalist concept. |
