maqueta 1

The project is part of the Bariloche’s Atomic Center (Centro Atómico Bariloche -CAB) of Balseiro Institute (IB), located in San Carlos de Bariloche (Río Negro, Argentina). The proposal is on a 2400m² site, with 1250m² of construction. This terrain is located between a building of aproximately 8m height and the Enrique Gaviola Square.
The master plan consists on inserting two buildings inside the complex: a library and an experimental laboratory. Both must integrate to existing buildings and stand out formally.
The architectonic program includes: administrative area, library area (cafeteria, periodic publications library, showroom, historic archive, Bariloche foundation Library), technical support area, services and workshop area, and complementary services (restrooms and others).

The main objective of the proposal is to obtain the maximum conditions of comfort as to material response to air vapour, as well as luminic comfort in internal spaces.
The space relations are generated by a linear contextual circumstance: the accentuated tree stripe on the margins in north-south direction. The proposal connects and articulates this axes and introduces a similar line of trees, narrower than the existing ones on east-west direction. This last ax crosses the building internally, turning internal space into public space.
The project is attached to two fundamental elements: water and vegetation. These elements create an atmosphere that articulates the spaces and generates harmony with the context.
Light makes up pure volumes, which are connected by three coverings that define circulations.
