vázquez guzmán house
liberia, 2003

Located in a privileged site on the guanacastean pampa, vázquez guzmán house is a clear example of respect and integration to context. The general scheme consists on a rectangle of 8m x 34m, which splits and to which are attached volumes and planes.
The house is practically the only property within meters, thus the adaptation is achieved by the horizontality and site focal points views. The entrance is made by car, on a straight ax, and a tree of significant size at the end of the property is exploited as a focal point. Turning left, the entrance to the house is emphasized, covered by a sloped roof that invites the visitant and focal point to the pool. Subsequently, entering is the kitchen and social area, permanently related to the wooden terrace and the pool. As an intermediate space, contained, are the tv room and the house book collection.

The latter is directly communicated to the bedrooms. Reading is one of the main activities on this house, as an explicit request from the clients.
The discrete volumes personalize and represent the spaces that contain, the white metallic elements are mainly expressed in the social area.
Broad heights because of climate reasons, and chromatic purity, as well as transparencies and contemporary lightness, invite to the constant attachment to a site that clearly reflects the nature of Guanacaste province, in western Costa Rica.
