elemental contest
chile, 2003

Expansion searches to correspond to Santiago city with a contemporary architecture building, variable and open, that constantly incites the elemental and balanced living experience between citizens connected to the project.
1. urban: the placement of the proposal into the city is a fundamental objective. The open plan in the first level generates pedestrian circulations and foments encounter. Under the living modules are the parking lots and subsequently the eventual places for commerce and cafeterias.
Local Chilean vegetation is punctually located to generate broad spaces to develop artistic and cultural activities and foment the view of architectural interest buildings.

  • 2. living:  the housing proposal is an example of Open Architecture. The amount of floors relates to the urban profile. Each living unit is conformed by two modules of 3m x 5m, to which up to three modules more can be attached. The buildings contain two dwellings per floor, communicated to the vertical circulation ducts by wooden bridges.
The facades are oriented toward south and north, for luminic and climate reasons. The glass and 5.6m x 1.5m wood grille envelopes are inspired in the best Chilean wooden architecture. The structural system is modular and is conformed by a concrete wall in the middle –between the housing units, and a system of steel columns and beams in the edges of the modules. The panels for the floor structures are prefabricated and allow growing with modules closed with glass or open terraces.
