zermak photography studio
la unión, 2004
Zermak Photography Studio is an ampliation to the photographer’s house. The project is immersed within a residential zone, in front of highly sloped terrains and a small wooded area.
The proposal articulates the house and the project with a hallway generated from the wooden entrance that ends in a deck and meeting table. As this axis is advanced, entrances to both projects are found: to the left, the house; to the right, the studio. This last entrance escapes towards the stairway that connects to the park in front of the property. The space requires darkness, to benefit the activities taking place. The dark room is evidenced by a cube on façade, which contains the internal sink for chemicals. A bathroom with a discrete vertical opening illuminates a mirror for models. Continuing the way, the computer space is located, and a higher volume at the end contains the cyclorama. |
The covers were designed on concrete flagstones, which directly urged volume managing, influencing lighs and shadows –conceptual link between architecture and photography. The proposed whites for the whole project benefit the chiaroscuros as well. An opening on the roof illuminates the entry, a space that continues the steel beam that invites the entrance from the east façade of the property. Geometrically the building is proportioned in golden section, in floor plan as well as in façade. The studio acts as a project of modest scale with an exhaustive control of architectonic and constructive detail. |
