The Project is part of the Centro Atómico Bariloche (CAB) from the Instituto Balseiro (IB), located on San Carlos de Bariloche (Río Negro, Argentina). The proposal is on a 2300m² site with 1600m² of construction. This flat terrain is between two buildings of 8m height each.
The architectural program includes experimental, pedagogic, technical support services and office areas, and complementary services areas such as restrooms. The idea of the experimental laboratory is that it is used for the development of experiences that conform basic physics, mechanical and nuclear engineering of IB. Each experiment is normally developed by a single student, and therefore the space requires simultaneous laboratory practices. The space is projected for the simultaneous development of 50 to 60 experiments. |
As a fundamental design request, a 200m² salon and two 100m² salons, are projected. Salons are projected for their eventual dividing, so that three or four experiments can be developed at the same time.
The circulation area divides the building into two volumes: a rectangular based prism and a triangular base prism. At the union of these spaces a transparency game is developed, on façade and covering, where light inundates the space and creates a contrast of shadows generated by the roof’s supporting structure. The interior and the exterior are connected by the transparency of the building, creating a double sensorial space. |
