The Barrio Escalante Urban Renovation Plan’s objective is to consolidate an urban policy in Barrio Escalante, which is made up by solutions to the needs of the citizens who live, work and walk along the neighborhood. The plan is designed along with the national and municipal current plans, and searches to strengthen and execute the specific urban and architectonic projects in Barrio Escalante. This plan is organized in 20 “urban acupunctures”, divided into four groups: weaves (5), axis (5), zones (5) and points(5). The project consists on a proposal focused on three fundamental values: the consolidation of the neighborhood identity (particularly the cultural and gastronomic), strengthening public space and the vitalization of landscape values of the neighborhood. At the same time, it contemplates mainly the user, social integration, the investment’s low cost, and the cultural and gastronomic intensification of the neighborhood. This situation pretends to improve the neighborhood’s capital gain.
The plan is based on "urban acupuncture systems", proposed by the project’s director, in his document "Repensar la ciudad desde los Sistemas de Acupunturas Urbanas" (ETSAB-UPC), in English "Rethinking city from the urban acupuncture systems". The urban acupunctures are influenced by Oriol Bohigas and Jaime Lerner, and systems are based on the analysis by Josep María Montaner. |
