The proposal looks to link conceptually catalan culture into the new headquarters for costa rican Casal Català.
The architectural program is comprised by a reception, multiuse salon, internal garden, library, gallery, computers room, kitchen, two bathrooms, cellar and parking lot. The formal expression reminds of catalan culture’s artistic milestones. Dalí, Miró, Cerdá, Las Ramblas, Fountain of Montjuic, the catalan flag and Barcelona’s contemporary design. When initializing the conceptual identification, an adaptation of the site on corner is created, incorporating the diagonal scheme of Plan Cerdá. This axis organizes the floor plan, directs the entry and generates a focal point at the end of the hallway. |
At the access, the figure of the egg designed by Dali was the element placed as urban reference, because of its visual simplicity and highly symbolic content.
Located at one side of the entrance, the image of Virgen de Montserrat “welcomes” the visitors. The patio was designed as a place of encounter and dialogue. This spot is projected with natural stone floors, as a reminiscence of Cataluña’s regions, in addition to a continuous bench, that refers to colorful Park Güell (Antonio Gaudí, 1914). As a focal point to the generator axis, an illuminated fountain is projected, with water that can be drank or listened to. The “skin” of Casal Català was designed with graphical cleanness and contemporary character, inspired on Barcelona for the new millennium. A texture on wooden stripes that reminds of catalan flag, and a colored brick treatment on sidewalk floors will be used. |
